  Composite with Alpha

  I have an animation as a separate clip. And a corresponding clip which contains the Alpha Channel. At the end of the clip, it is designed to reveal a new clip. What is the process to key the footage through so it reveals the end clip?

  Scott,

  Put your animation clip on video layer 2 or 3, then put your alpha channel clip on the layer below it, make sure they are in sync. Right-click on the animation clip and under composite mode select Travel Matte Luma. Your animation clip will read the luminance (i.e. the white to gray areas of your alpha clip) so that the animation can reveal video playing underneath.

  Got it. The main problem was the clips I was working with were in the DV codec. Ugly and not supported for keying within FCP. Got it redone in Sorenson. Worked great.
