  FCP ‘drops’ cached renders in Timeline for no reason – Why?

  Hi,

  I’m not sure if this is default behaviour or a really obvious configuration setting that I have wrong – but after rendering some ‘processor-intensive’ portions of my edit in Final Cut Pro I find that it ‘drops’ or looses the rendered sections in the timeline for no reason very easily.

  This is a little frustrating as after 20min of waiting for a section of my timeline to render a portion of a clip with a filter applied I find that even something as simple as scrubbing back and forth with the playhead in the timeline causes me to lose what I had just rendered (turning the indicator red again in the timeline). Would anyone know why this is happening?

  I’ve done as much research as I can into this before posting, but I can’t seem to find an answer beyond ‘make sure your sequence settings are correct’. This I am certain of – and I have no other issues using my footage in RT in the timeline.

  Admittedly I am a little new to FCP and have never really messed about with intensive effects before, so is this just the usual behaviour or is something wrong?

  I’m on a 2.6Ghz Macbook Pro with 100G space on the harddrive – editing HDV1080i60 footage. My sequence video settings match the clip.

  Any help would be hugely appreciated.

  I can tell you that what your describing is not normal behavior, all I can suggest is you trash your preferences and see if that sorts it. Google and you will find plenty of tutorials.
