Official serial number of FCE2 rejected during upgrade to FCP5
Hi all,
I have just purchased Final Cut Express 2 with an upgrade to Final Cut Pro 5. After installation, I launch FCP5, registration of the upgrade is not a problem, then I am asked for the serial number of the original software i.e. FCE2 and the serial is not recognized.
Can anyone help? I have triple checked it and it is definitely the right serial number mentioned on the 2 stickers on the front page of the “installing your software” manual… so no chance of error there.
Tx in advance for anyone who would have helpful feedback.

As far as I am aware, you cannot upgrade Final Cut Express to Final Cut Pro. This requires a full purchase.

Did you run the FCE software and initialize it? If it doesn’t work you should contact Apple about this. Serial number issues can only be dealt with by them. There was in early versions of FCE an upgrade path to FCP, though I’m not sure if it applied to v5.

There’s no current option to upgrade from FCE, now FCS is only sold as a bundle. If memory serves, there used to be an option back in the FCP-only days.
If you have a new copy of FCE and an old FCP 5 upgrade (that’s an old product) I very much doubt you’ve got any chance of upgrading. Nice try though…
As always – Apple only can sort these issues.
