  • FCP6 sound wont capture from Digital Betacam Tape

    Hello

I’m using FCP6 and trying to capture a digital betacam tape on a Sony J-30SDI, connected via firewire 400. The video captures fine but no audio.

    Capture Setting:
    Device control: Firewire PAL
    Capture/Input: DV PAL 48kHz

    Any help would be appreciated.

I’d think you need to capture it as uncompressed SD, not DV…

It’s perfectly possible to capture in DV with the J30.

    Chris your settings seem right.
Are you sure the audio check box of the clip settings tab in the capture window is checked? That would be the most probable cause.

Also do you have sound through the system when you just press play using the capture controls? (check the audio bars. If not, maybe a setting of the J30 is wrong, I believe you can change channels with one of the buttons left on the front, but i’m not sure if it influences the output through firewire.

    Hi
The FW conversion to DV in the J-30 is as good as it gets, the best I’ve seen.
The J-30 can be set in its Advanced Menu to access either Audio 1 & 2 of the Digibeta tape, or Audio 3 & 4 (or a mix of all 4). So that’s a setting that could be wrong.

You can see the audio bars move up and down on the J-30. But in Log & Capture, there is no audio movement in the audio bars, with button checked or unchecked.

I will have to investigate the J-30 on Monday. Thanks

Thanks for the response, I will check out the J-30 on Monday morning, and let you know the Advanced menu resolves the issue.

    Problem solved.

The audio channels were set to 3&4 and needed to be on 1&2

I needed to connect the J-30 up to a television, access the advanced menu. Change the iLink audio setting to channels 1&2.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
