I am using the Sony Z7U camcorder and have problems getting a proper connection with the Memory Recording Unit to my Mac for FCP. I’m using a 2.5GHz Power PC G5, OS 10.5.5, FCP 6.0.4. And yes, I downloaded and installed the proper software from Sony.

My computer seems to read a card from the unit only when it wants to. Occasionally I make a connection and am able to download files, but when I eject the icon from the desktop, turn the Memory Recording Unit off, and insert another card, it no longer connects with the unit. I know it isn’t a case of a bad card for two reasons:

    1) When I try inserting the original card again, it still no longer can make a connection (despite turning on and off the unit and unplugging the firewire cable).

    2) It works just fine on my G4 laptop with every card.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

Just noticed your post. I have this same problem. Sometimes the clips show up in just a few seconds, sometimes they don’t show up for a long time. I’ve found that if I wait long enough, they do appear, but sometimes I have to wait 10 or 15 minutes before they show.

Did you ever find a solution to your problem?

Strange, I have exactly the same problem. I installed the memory card reader software on my macbook pro and that works fine with no delay. I have just installed the software on two G5 QUAD CORE macs and it takes minutes for the footage to appear in the log and transfer window. I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the mac it’s running on?

This problem may be machine related. When I responded to the original post, I was using an iMac 24″ Core2Duo. Now I am field editing on a MacBook Pro and I am not having the same problem. Clips show up in a timely fashion with no long delays.
