I shot something yesterday on a deck that records in HDV 1080i. I thought I would be able to capture it to FCP HD but my HDV deck only supports 720p. That made me start to wonder if v. 5 even supports 1080i. Also, I first need to make a standard DVD review copy of the tape. Will a 1080 deck even output to a standard DVD recorder to make a copy, and will I be able to watch it on a standard monitor?

FCP 5 supports 1080i. HDV support was limited in that version…that was the first version to have HDV support, so it was in it’s infancy. But that doesn’t sound like the issue. It sounds like you shot with the Canon or Sony HDV cameras, but only have a JVC camera or deck to capture with. Well, there are two flavors of HDV…the ones that Sony and Canon use (1080) and the one JVC uses (720p)…and they are incompatible. If you want to capture footage shot with a Canon or Sony camera, you need either a SOny HDV deck or a Canon or Sony HDV camera.
