  • Adding a lower thirds logo without rendering it

At my work we usually have 45 minute videos and we want to put a little logo on the bottom right corner of the entire video. Can this be done without having to render out the whole video? I know in Adobe Premier if the pixel size of the overlaid image is the same as the sequence it wont need to render out. Does it work the same in Final Cut Pro?

Depends on your hardware capabilities and the codecs you are using but usually am alpha-based effect must be rendered. To not render puts much at risk.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

If you’re using a Kona 3 to layback to tape, you can use the downstream keyer for this. If not, you can use the watermark feature in compressor to add it as you compress. Otherwise, as David said, if you’re doing it within Final Cut, it will require a render.
