Final Cut gets slower as day progresses
PowerBook G4, 10.4.11. 1 GHz PowerPC G4, 1 MB L3 cache. I GB DDR SDRAM. external HDD a Firewire Western Digital 500 GB…plenty of room on internal and external drives. System is not a powerhouse, but it’s what I’ve got.
When editing with FCP 4.5, speed of operating is adequate, considering it’s an older Mac with a single processor, etc, but after a few hours the system bogs down and runs very slow. Example: shortening a clip in the timeline will take 30 or more seconds to refresh before I can move on to another simple editing procedure, such as moving a clip in the timeline. No rendering here, just simple editing. Is this caused by the heat the computer generates?
I’ve gone through the FCP 3rd-party manual and did all suggestions for gaining speed, but to no avail. I’d appreciate help from anyone who has any solutions.
Thanks.
