    Hi all,

I have a project with a bunch of still frames and after compressing and burning some of the images appear jittery when played back on a regular TV. The strange thing is that not all of the image jitters. For instance, I have a shot of a guy holding a chrome power tool and the guy is rock solid, but the power tool jitters like crazy. It’s very odd. The frames are grabbed from the video, so they’re not a strange format. Is this a compression problem? An interlacing issue? Help!

Did they not jitter in FCP on your NTSC monitor? It is an interlace issue. You’re just seeing the completely normal movement between the 2 fields that make up a frame. It’s only an issue on the tool because the tool was the only thing moving. You need to put a deintsrlace filter on the freeze frame if of has enough motion to warrant doing so. In this case, you could use a mask to only apply the filter to the area with noticeable motion.

This could also be a field order issue. Check the jittery frames to see if their order (upper/lower) is the same as your sequence’s settings.

    Ronald,

Since it likely is a fields issue, try Fields Kit from revisioneffects.com. It has smart deinterlacers and built in masking. Truly the best deinterlacer out there.

    Have a wonderful day.
