IMX codec gone walkabout
Howdy!
For some strange reason I cannot now play any video in MPEG IMX 625/50 in FCP or QT. I’ve tried everything copying QT folder from the library off my G5, downloading AJA codec packs, installing Calibrated versions. When I try to open a timeline from FCP projects made on the G5 I get an error message of “Codec not found found. You maybe using a compression type without the correspnding hardware card.” When I hit OK I get “Error. Out of memory”. Is it something as stupid as missing hardware although FCP (using v6.04) claims to support IMX?
Someone help this poor stupid soul!

Hi Paul,
In Library. Quick Times, you should have the IMX Component. This get installed with FC.
Some times FC or QT can not see those components. But you don’t have always to blame those applications. Quite often there are some “File Finder Info” errors or so that cause those problems.
Some times I have to open FC in order to let QT display the QT Pro options.
i would start by optimizing the system; Repair permissions and rebuild directories.
if this doesn’t work, reinstall the last FC update.

Copied the QT folder from G5 to laptop but nothing. Re-installed updates and repaired permissions. Can now here the video but can see nothing. What do you mean by rebuild directories?
In the Quicktime folder there is a CalibratedIMXCodec.component is this the codec?

If your laptop is a PPC, no problem to do that. If is an Intel, i guess that is not much recommendable.[Paul Redgrove] “In the Quicktime folder there is a CalibratedIMXCodec.component is this the code” I guess you get this component when you install Calibrated, but I suppose you should still have the default IMX component that gets installed with FC.

Directories are basically lists that the system use to retrieve the data in any HD. With the normal use of the computer they get messed and this the most habitual source of malfunctions in MacOX (Unix).
You need to run DiskWarrior, TechTools or similar application to clean then.

Sorry meant to say laptop and office Mac (I guess they’re not G5’s anymore) are both Intel.
Re-installed FCP same problem just no sign of an IMX codec? Installed Kona codecs as well still nothing…
Will try the disk warrior route as a matter of course

Paul, you’ve mention the Calibrated codec a couple of times … its likely that is your problem. Installing that codec on an FCP system is going to cause nothing but pain as it will directly conflict with the IMX codec installed as part of FCP. That means you’ll end up with a system that can’t use either … it’ll just get confused.

Not for use when Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Studio, or Final Cut Studio 2 is installedTry uninstalling that third party codec, then see if things go back to normal

I installed it as a last resort when all my video failed to run. Have now uninstalled everything with the word calibrated in front of it but still nothing…Is there such a thing as an IMX codec? My machine in the office doesn’t appear to have one either but works fine…

Have a look in the root Library’s Quicktime folder ie /Library/Quicktime/IMXCodec.component
Thats where mine is.

This may be very obvious but my Quicktime folder is Library>Application Support, is this the one? And when you say root does you mean on the HD? has the QT folder found it’s way into the wrong place?
Used search and found an IMX codec pkg and component. The package will not install on any drive and simply adding the codec component to the Quicktime folder did nothing.
