monitoring video on my 1080p HDTV
I am trying to be able to preview my edit on my HDTV. I have a MacBook Pro and Originally I purchased a DVI to HDMI cable and ran that to my TV, which is nice, but it just mirrors my screen on the TV. I thought that the problem might be that the computer was recognizing the TV as a display monitor rather than a video monitor so recently I purchased a DVI to Component RGB cable. I haven’t even gotten that one to work properly, but I can tell that what it is trying to display is still the mirrored desktop. Any ideas on how I can use the TV strictly as a preview monitor and not a dual display for my computer?

Thats because your display settings are set to mirror instead of use it as a second display.

The computer will ALWAYS recognize anything you connect to the DVI connection as a display.

For that you will need a MacPro with a video in out card. It cannot be done like that on a MacBook Pro, like I said anything you connect to the DVI port will act as a display.
You can still set FCP to playback on the second display, that is not a problem. But keep in mind it t is a HDTV attached as a display, it will not function the same not give you fully accurate color representation like a pro video monitor connected to a video in out card.
For better color representation when using a MBP look into the Matrox MXO.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

You’ll need something like Matrox MXO to do this. If you have an AJA IO HD, then its no problem at all with this device.
