Proper Importing of Subclips to a 2nd Project
Scenario is this:
DV NTSC footage was divided into subclips, subclips were renamed, then edited into Project 1’s sequence, “Scene 01”. 2 additional projects are made in similar fashions, so now we have 3 projects each with 1 sequence: “Scene 01”, “Scene 02”, “Scene 03”.
The sequences from the 3 separate projects are then dragged into Project 4’s project tab – Project 4 contains a sequence “Combined Scenes”.
Edited the Scene sequences into the Combined Scenes sequence and playback in the Timeline was fine with no problems; all that’s left is to import the master clips, right? So we select each Scene 0x sequence individually in the Browser and go to Tools>Create Master Clips. Imports fine, BUT…the imported subclips in Project 4 when opened in the Viewer only show the last frame — that’s it.
Now, maybe I’m just having a mental block, because I deal with subs all the time and have been editing on FCP for almost a decade, but I can’t find a straight answer from the forums or the manual. My instinct is to say the relationship between the subclip and the source file is broken in this process, and that the reason we still can play the subclip as it was used in the sequence is because it’s independent, but that can’t be since changing the subclip’s name in the browser filters down to the affiliate clip.
Any insight from my esteemed fellows on the COW would be much appreciated.
