I recently got an external hard drive for editing videos, as I was quickly running out of space on my computer. I was given a terabyte to work with, I switched the scratch disks from my computer to the external, I saved a new folder for the final cut videos on the external, but I’m still running out of room as I log and capture! I know there’s more than enough room on the hard drive, I’m just not sure why the capturing fills up my computer instead of copying right onto the external, and I’m not sure what’s left that I should be switching. What should I still switch?

    Two ideas –

    1. Did you properly set the scratch disk to the external? Its “Final Cut Pro>System Settings>Scratch Disks”

    2. How is the external drive formatted? It should be Mac OSX Extended (non-journaled)
