Losing video quality when placing in timeline….??
I’m having a problem with this bunch of videos…. when I import them they appear full quality in the viewer and everything looks fine, but as soon as I drag them onto the timeline (using any method….overwrite, replace, any of them) the quality gets trashed and the video looks blurred. The video is a camtasia file converted to .mov, the image is a screen shot of the computer screen while doing a tutorial. I do tons of other videos and dont notice any quality issues, but just with these the screen looks blurred. Any help?

Use your video monitor to check quality, not the Canvas. Also, use a higher quality codec than DV.

Camtasia is PC only so your export settings may have been incorrect. Most tutorial developers capture a full screen, maybe 1200 pixels or more in any one direction, and are surprised when they put it in a DV timeline, which is only 500 pixels or so wide. If FCP scales the image to fit, of course it’s going to look terrible, 75% of the pixels have been smooshed into 255 of the space. If you don’t tell FCP to scale the image to fit the timeline, you will need to pull it around using wireframe view so the part fo the screen you want to see is under the itty bitty video window.
