FCP Playback Problem
UPDTAE: Further clues
Methinks this is an AJA issue. I am using a Kona 2.
When I have my FCP playback settings set to AJA 1920×1080 8-bit, that is when I get the removal of the fields (until I stop playback). When I change the monitoring settings to 1920×1080 10-bit, I get all of the fields when playing back… but the whole thing is jerky and drops content (i assume because i am trying to playback 10-bit through a dual G5). The point is, the fields are there and they display “properly” in 10-bit. What gives with the 8-bit?

Edited in 1440×1080 (native XDCAM) with Pro Res 422 rendering for effects.Everything has been fine… but I have a question.
I exported my final project as a 1920×1080 60i 48khz movie (using a ProRes 422 HQ codec).
When I re-import to test playback, I get a strange problem. When the playhead is “parked” (not playing), the entire, two-field image is clear and sharp. When I press play, FCP seems to effectively strip out one field as it plays, thereby degrading the image noticeably. I hit stop, and after a very brief moment (nanoseconds), FCP displays both fields again.In other words, I know both fields are there… but FCP isn’t playing them both back in real time.
I have to send this off to a dub house to put to tape. Personally, I’d like to solve this issue on my end, in case it happens as it’s coming out of their FCP as well. Any ideas?
Naturally, I need an answer very fast.

What happens when you open your reimported clip in the Viewer and do Print to Video? Do you see both fields there? If it looks OK there, then the dubhouse’s FCP should also see both fields which means you are safe.
NB: Before trying this, make sure that the Record to Tape setting is set to Full Quality (you can find it in System Settings, tab Playback Control).Jaap
