Hi, I checked out the tutorial by andrew kramer called
“27. Create a Cool 3D Room with nice title! NEW!”

This can be found on his website, videocopilot.net under tutorial…

So problem is, im watching his tutorial and working along but 6:22 into his tutorial, he does something with the camera that totally throws me off.

6:22 there are no keyframes on his timeline, then suddenly at 6:24, boom, there are suddenly keyframs on his timeline and I have no idea how he did this.

I tried going into my camera and selecting “position” and dragging the scroll bar out further into my timeline but it wont move. Its stuck at 0:00:00.

If anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Not sure if im allowed to post links in this forum… but here is a direct link to the tutorial im having trouble with.

I continued watching but I still am not able to animate my camera. This is probably because I cant drag my scroll bar anywhere.

When I hit “0” for a preview, I get the following message.
After Effects error: RAM Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback.

I tried going back and hitting position and then trying to drag my scroll bar furtur into my time line, but it was still stuck at the first frame.

I have my room and text created, I just cant animate the camera.. well, I would be able to if I could move through my timeline….

    please help

How long is the comp, time-wise?

Long shot… Did you press “N” at frame zero and therefore have a 1 frame work area? A one frame work area will give you that error. Actually a one frame work area anywhere on the timeline will do that.

“Home then “B” and “End” then “N” will gve you the work area over the entire comp for rendering all. Like I said, a long shot.

“we would do an animation where we fly down this hallway….”

ok that is at 6:22 when andrew kramer says that in this tutorial.
    https://www.videocopilot.net/videotutorials/3droom/index.htm

all the above help and advice has not worked so far. if anyone knows what i am doing wrong, please tell me. i followed exactly everything he does in his tutorial until 6:22 when magically, position and point of intrest keyframes magically appear on the timeline. After that happens, he is free to move the scroll bar as he chooses. Im stuck at the part where im still trying to get the keyframes onto my timeline. I went and selected “position and point of intrest” under camera… but still I cannot do anything.

    Please help

I just wanna say that these keyframes appear cuz Andrew Kramer is a god (and he assumes you most likely already know how to set up the camera movement)

I really think you had the answer…

    First – the render problem.

When you get the warning you did it means that your WORK AREA is set to 1 frame.

The N/B keys will change that — kind of in and out points. On your comp window’s timeline above where all the layers are there will be two lines… one very thin one at the top that is the zoom view and the second one just below that that has two blue bars (or one bar if you’ve got them so close together). Slide the right side one over to the right and that will give you more room.

    Now — the tutorial/camera move question…

I’d actually probably do some other tutorials first if you are trying to learn AE. Jumping right into this is a bit advanced. If a keyframe is set somewhere on the timeline and you later (or before) change position of an element – here a camera – then it will automatically set a keyframe. If one hasn’t been established and you WANT to make one… click the stopwatch. DON’T click the stopwatch again unless you want to remove all keyframes… instead, use the little keyframe add thingie to the left of that.

Anyway — it’s all in the manual too.
