    Hi ,

I am trying to cut HDV footage on a laptop mac (OS 10.4.11-1.67 Ghz processor-1.5gb memory) but when i play the timeline (same settings as footage) it constantly stops and the drop frame window appears too often. I can’t carry on like this…is it because my computer is not powerful enough?

Also when i export a quick time (to Dv quality with QT convertor) it jerks a lot on the movements! I guess it is a field dominance problem …?

What is the result using HDV in FCP?
When do we use Prores codeck???

Are you trying to play this video from your internal hard drive? If so, that’s you problem. HDV is very processor intensive and needs full bandwidth of an external hard drive on your computer. Most any firewire 800 drive will work on simple projects.

I would bet to guess you are right on this one. HD video is upper field dominate and SD video is lower field dominate. The best and easiest way to create DVDs is to use Compressor on your master HD timeline export and convert that to the DVD format. Then, you can drop those into DVDSP. OR if you want to… drop them into DVDSP and let it convert your video for you (this can be hit or miss if your settings are set correctly).
