Editing workflow question
Hi to all! Great group!
This is basically a fundamental question, and has to do with an editing workflow. So far, my editing in FCP has just been for a few short months. I’m learning more and more and now starting to shoot bigger and more complicated assignments. Up to now, I’ve mainly been doing in and out points and dragging them into the timeline in the order of how an event unfolds. Fairly simple on most of my projects so far.
Recently, I taped an all day music festival capturing a little over 4 hours raw tape. I’m now ready to edit all the footage into a documentary. I didn’t realize what a daunting task this is turning out to be! I have so many starts and stops on the camera, I can’t remember where a particular take is and on which roll. So one question I have: can one do an “in and out” point on a clip, and drag it back into the browser and or put it into a folder of similar clips to keep track of them all? Is this the right approach? Or can I just build sequences of everything and then cut and paste them all together in the order I desire?
I know there must be a standard approach to this in the owners manual, but could someone suggest to me a good way to overview a lot of captured footage to make decision making easier?
Thanks so much!
