effect in my film
Hi! In a new film I’m making, I want to have a 747 airplane blow up in the sky, and the camera point of view being from the ground, looking up at the plane. I am only using final cut pro and the plane exploding effect from the detonation films website (link is included at the end of my post). Please tell me if this effect is possible and, if so, give me instructions on how to achieve this effect. Thanks, really appreciate it!!!!!!!

Isn’t the video on that site just stock green screen footage? If that’s the case, then all you will need to do (I say ALL, it isn’t simple) is key out the green and remove the strings. There’s not much you can do about the angle you see it from, what you see in the stock footage is what you get.
Anyway, you can key out the green using Final Cut – look under filters for Color Key I believe it’s called. Then just use the eyedropper thing to select the green as the colour you wish to remove. Then you can play around with the feather and edge thin settings until you get a decent result.If you can though, use After Effects. The keying tools are WAY better.
You could always buy a model plane, stuff it with fireworks and film it yourself if you wanted it from a different angle, but make sure you fill out a health and safety report first. (I’m joking, please don’t play with fireworks.)
