    hi guys,

I have a rendering issue. I am currently working at a small startup Television station doing motion graphics in after effects. these AE graphics are always sent to the editors to place into the shows. when the editors add these graphics to their timelines in FCP, they always have to render. This eats up a lot of precious time.
When i first started, all of the graphics needed to be rendered in FCP but i quickly realized that rendering as DV NTSC, which I understand is considered the ‘Native Codec’, would resolve this issue. However, many times these graphics include alpha channel data which i render in the animation codec (quality on High, not Best) and therefore hit the render wall. I need a solution to save time because the editors are breathing down my neck about it daily and i must watch them suffer.

FCP does not handle alpha channels natively. You must render.

Please voice your conern to the Apple team so that alpha channels will be handled natively in FCP:

Yes. Is time that the people in Apple do something about Alpha and Third part Codecs support.
FC can handle 2K and work in 32b, but offers just two or three old fashioned codecs supporting 8b Alpha.
Meanwhile you can try Sheer. You can export from AE in 8b Unc ( YCbCr/RGB) with Alpha. Renders much faster than Animation.

or you could download and use Avid’s QT codec bundle … one of their codecs might make an acceptable graphics interchange format and I beleive pretty much all of their codec’s have alpha support, even the Avid DV codec
