  • Matching Layer Window to Comp Window

    Hello,

    Maybe complex question below:

I’m doing character animation in AE 5.5.

Is it possible to work on a character (moving legs, arm, etc.) in a pre-comped layer window which is “synced” to the main comp window containing the background?

For example, let’s say the character moves left arm at timeframe 5:15 in the layer window. Can the main comp window move to the same timeframe to match?

Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance…

I think I understand. Just undock the Pre-comp window and drag it to a new spot on your screen. I don’t have 5.5 to test it on, but i think you just grab the Pre-Comp’s tab in the viewer window and drag it to a new location.

    I apologize for the long-winded 1st question.

I guess the better way to put it is:

How can I get two separate comps linked in time so that when I animate the character body in one comp, the other comp (where the character comp is pre-composed) is also updated in the timeline?

I hope that this makes more sense

    thanks….

You’ll need to do two things –
    1) Pre comp the body into a ‘final comp’ – seems like you’ve done this
    2) Goto to Preferences and ensure that Under Preview, “maintain time … of related comps” is switched on.
