Livetype to FCP problem
Posted by Lawrence Gray on August 14, 2008 at 2:47 pmI’ve created a title in Livetype and want to import it into FCP. Unfortunately when I do this all I get is a black screen with one of the type layers appearing.
I’ve rendered the file. I’ve saved. I’ve imported the Livetype file and can see no reason why I shouldn’t get the file as displayed in livetype.
If I save the normal render preview movie and import that, then I get the file as it should be… though a lot less quality… at least I think it must be less quality as it comes in as a small image I need to enlarge.
What’s the trick here?

August 15, 2008 at 2:46 amYes, otherwise no transparency.
Don’t you have the IN/OUT points in wrong place and are you exporting with “Render Only between IN/OUT points”?

August 15, 2008 at 3:09 amThe In and Out points seem OK. If I click Render Background when rendering to Movie then i get the clip properly exported.
However, if I merely save the ipr file and import that into FC I still have the same problem. No background.
The default setting is a tick in the Render Background box when creating a .mov and no tick in the Render Background box.
How do I change that?

August 15, 2008 at 9:26 amIs very strange this behave.
If you have no background in the time-line, is the same if the “Render Background” is checked or not.
So if it works with “Render Background”, open your project and in the export window check this option.

August 15, 2008 at 10:18 amYou don’t get any options when you save a Livetype file. It works when you export the .mov file but not when you simply import the Livetype file, as it is supposed to.
In another message group someone with a similar problem complains that Livetype has a problem with Intel Macs. I wonder if it has anything to do with that.

August 15, 2008 at 10:41 amThere I can not help you much. I never work with with LiveType files. I always export a .mov.
The truth is that I work quite little with LiveType. To be able to export only as Animation is a hug limitation.

August 15, 2008 at 10:59 amBeing Intel has nothing to with it. What version of LiveType? What version of FCP? Is there anything in the LT project other than LT elements? If not, can you send me the LT Project? Can you put the LT project inside a Motion project?
All the best,
Tom

FCP 6.04I’m just using a Livetype Template.
Haven’t a clue about Motion. I’ve yet to open it and even look at the manual! I’ve signed up for a course later in the year.
Send your e-mail and I’ll send you the file.
