Quality loss in using “Scale” and “Replicate”
In using Final Cut on my computer, when I use “Scale” on the Motion tab to scale a clip down in size, or when I apply the “Replicate” Filter, I get a substantial loss in quality, in comparison to what I get on another computer running the same version of Final Cut with the same settings, using the same clips, etc. The loss in quality manifests itself as jagged edges and pixelation.
Of course, in comparing the output of Final Cut on my computer with that from Final Cut on the other computer, I look at those outputs on the same monitor, and ultimately, on a television attached to a DVD player, in which a DVD is playing, playing back the results from both instances of Final Cut.
Once again, each instance of Final Cut is the same version, processing the same clips in the same way, using the same settings, etc. — only one such instance produces much better results. What could possibly be wrong? Some low level system problem on my computer, such that Final Cut on my computer is not using Quartz Extreme and OpenGL properly?
I have checked my QuickTime Pro preferences, have checked the “Use high-quality video setting when available” box, etc.
By the way, the differences in quality are obvious in the Canvas, even before rendering. But as I say, they are still there in the final “product”, i.e. DVD.
Thank you.
