FPS Nightmare… Deadline Looming!!

I am pulling my hair out here… I have 2 timelines that I need to combine.
One is 29.97 FPS and one is 23.98 fps.
Both were build in FCP at their respective frame rates.
I tried copying and pasting one timeline into the other and all the audio is off synch… due to the frame rate difference.
I tried taking the 23.98 project, rendering out as QT, bringing into AE and exporting in a 29.97 format to match and when I rendered it and checked, QT pro said it was at 29.97, yet when I import the rendered QT file, it still have synch issues and when I check the properties in the FCP project using clip settings, it says it is still 23.98 fps – even though I rendered it out of AE as 29.97!! I am stumped and have the client coming to review the final cut tomorrow!!

Try Compressor. Export out the self contained file, then use the Advanced Conversion options in Compressor to compress it to match the other footage in codec and frame rate. Then reimport the result and seee what it looks like and how it behaves.

That should work, I’ve done that before.
maybe test a small section near the middle or end (a few seconds)
to ensure it works before doing it all. -
A couple of times recently I’ve had footage that if you render it at all, the clip’s in and out point change. I’ve very frustrating and difficult to deal with.
So to test if you’re having the same problem, check to see if your 23.98 exported file for AE is completely in sync.
Just thought I’d thought this out just in case.

YOu have to add pulldown in AE. Set your AE Comp for 23.976 in AE< then in the render settings module, select lower field first for NTSC SD or Upper field first for 1080i NTSC and then click the pulldown option and choose WWWSS. Make sure the "use this frame rate" checkbox says 29.97.

You can also add pulldown to your 23.98 clips right in Cinema Tools.
