I have some HDV 1080i50 footage that when I slow down, it goes really juddery. When stepping through the frames, it will play 2 frames in the right order, and then will skip backwards a frame, so its not actually running in forward motion but jumping to and fro. I have taken off frame blending which has helped but now looks juddery, so I had to add motion blur. Is there anyway to get around this?

Try using Motion for the slow motion instead. It uses optical flow technology, and is much better than what FCP does.
