WD Velociraptor RAID’s?
I’m looking to build or buy a RAID array for uncompressed HD. The cavat being I’d like to be able to use it both on both my octo Mac Pro (full speed) and Macbook Pro (thru a SATA expresscard, and probably not at full bandwidth because of port multiplation/Silicon Image Sandvine issues).
Anyway, now that the new Velociraptor WD drives are out and n established as the new SATA speed king….has anyone built a RAID out of these drives? Curious how a stripped RAID 0 from 2-4 of these drives would deliver. And using a few more of these in a larger array in a bigger enclosure, then how about a RAID5?
Various inquiries to various RAID 0 enclosure manufacturers reveal that nearly every single one uses the Silicon Graphics RAID controller chipsets (IE Disappearing drives). Those that would answer the question anyway, and those that didnt answer would seem to be a definate YES. So who doesn’t? Anybody? Still waiting for an answer from G-Tech….both to that question (for their port multiplied enclosures) and if their products are available with Velociraptor drives. Lastly I am wondering if there are any companies selling bare RAID5 enclosures….
