i am currently using log and transfer to import mxf files quality into fcp6 (used an hvx200 on dvcpro settings for 4×3 aspect ratio). most of the footage looks really good. however, a few shots have some bad interlacing (static frame with some, but not a ton, of motion). when i view the mxf’s in the capture window, they do not appear to have these issues. can anyone suggest workaround? is there a program that is better than fcp to convert mxf to mov? would it be better to create my cut in fcp and then transfer to another system that supports mxfs?

mxf is just a wrapper format, the video data it contains (the essence) remains the same regardless of the wrapper, so I would doubt that is the issue. the canvas window only shows a deinterlaced image, so any interlacing issues would not be apparent there.

forget where the files were sourced for a moment ..
check your settings and make sure the issue is not in there somewhere
select one of the clips that display this problem and press cmd-9 to open the item properties window
    jot down those format settings
now, with your sequence open and active in the timeline window, press cmd-zero to open the sequence settings window
    again, jot down those settings

compare the 2 lists … what differences are thee, if any? post back with your 2 lists of settings

everything is identical. i can upload screenshots if that helps – but both are:
    DVCPRO50 – NTSC
    29.97 fps
    CCIR 601
    with lower field dominance.

we shot in the 24p dv setting on an hvx 200. if i bring this footage into premiere, the massive interlacing problems are pretty much gone (as the program takes mxf files). interlacing resumes when i export a quicktime, however (though to a much smaller degree). it is also interpreting the footage as though it were 23.96 in premiere (and it is making the image progressive), which i am assuming is it’s interpretation of the wrapped information. i do have some random vertical line artifacting in this, though (thought it is MUCH better than in fcp with above settings).

    thoughts?

sorry I’ve no first hand experience with this camera although the 24p dv recording setting versus the 29.97 dv50 clip and timeline setting may point to the issue?

you originally asked for alterantive transfer methods …
you might try native mxf editing using mxf4mac’s mxf4qt components
    https://mxf4mac.com/products/mfx4qt
or an alternative transfer too such as p2 log https://www.imagineproducts.com/P2log.htm

Hi Michael. Did you ever resolve this? I’m having similar issues.
