Problem Importing Motion Graphic .mov into FCP
I’m trying to import a motion graphic into my final cut pro sequence. The file is a 12 second .mov and is RGB+alpha. It’s about 65MB and looks great when played as a quicktime outside of final cut. When I import it into final cut and look at any individual frame in the preview window everything looks great. But the minute i try to play the clip or import it into my fcp sequence and render it becomes crunchy and pixelated. I’ve tried switching from the Straight Alpha setting to the Black Alpha setting and noticed no improvement.My sequence settings are DV/DVCPRO – NTSC. The .mov is the same size as the fcp sequence – 720 x 480. Somehow it appears that final cut either doesn’t like the .mov file or is compressing it. Either way I’m totally lost. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Assuming you know what you’re doing with the creation of the movie, do any other renders turn crunchy?
That would be your user prefs for render control. These can be overridden by the sequence settings.bogiesan

Nothing else turns crunchy when I render. Just this specific group of six .mov graphic that my graphic designer sent me.

try converting to dv stream before import. the files you are importing are of what codec?

Assuming you are rendering out of AE in an uncompressed codec, playing in DV will usually look like crap. When your edit is all done, change the compressor of the sequence to 8 bit and render. You won’t be able to see it in real time over FireWire, but movies you spit out will look great.
