I’ve just started to mess around with puppet and I can’t quite seem to get something. I want to have layers for the mouth movements yet I can’t seem to be able to parent them to the mesh. I’ll move the head and the mouth doesn’t go with the head.

Is there a way to have a mesh within a mesh i.e. have a mesh for the mouth that is parented to the body mesh?

I don’t have AE8 (no AE7 to get the right numbers) but I’ve had similar problems with effects (bender, etc) on parented layers, so what I’d try is to parent the mouth to the head then precompose, then add puppet to the precomp. Will that work for you?

That worked. Thank you. I should’ve known to do that!

You don’t really need a tutorial — cut up the figure into parts in Photoshop, import the image with layers into AE, use the “pan behind” tool to move each layer’s anchor point to where you want it to rotate (e.g. the shoulder), then parent all the limbs and head to the torso.

To animate the position of the person, move the torso. All the limbs should follow.
To move the limbs, animate their rotation.

If you don’t understand any of those terms, check the help.
