I found an article by Jon Chappel that gives a chart of the optimal configurations of versions for OS, Quicktime and Final Cut, which I thought others might find helpful if you’re experiencing weirdnesses after an upgrade. To downgrade I found using Pacifist worked pretty well, but remember to hold on to your Quicktime Pro license number before you do it. See article https://digitalrebellion.com/blog/cats/20/index2.html. To downgrade the OS, I needed to create a “Previous Systems” folder and then do the reinstall from Disc.

The compatibility list is on the next page,

Jon has a lot of other helpful information and his RSS is worth subscribing to.

    Andrea,

Jon over at Digital Rebellion knows lots of stuff and makes some very nice mini-apps that enhance the FCP experience, such a Preferece Manager, which is sort like FCP on steroids.

However, keep in mind, his list of compatibilities does not take into account the fact that Intel machines and PowerPCs have been found to behave quite differently after upgrades in some cases. So, while Jon’s list is a good starting point to reference, its not the holy grail.

And, anyone working professionally should always take the time to clone their system drive before performing an upgrade to the OS, to FCP, or to Quicktime.
