It used to be after capture when I would put a clip in the FCP timeline that the audio tracks and video would be “attached,” so that when I move the video, the audio moves too, unless I unlinked them. But now the default seems to be unlinked. Is there a setting somewhere so that when I bring things into the timeline they will be linked? Know what I’m asking?

    Thanks.

There is a ‘Master Link’ of sorts for the whole timeline. It’s the little button in the top right of your timeline that looks like a couple of links. Make sure it’s pressed. The keyboard shortcut is shift-L

It’s called “Linked Selection”, Jeremy. I leave it on at all times and use the option key when I need to override it.

Kevin, I love how lately I have ben talking in the abstract saying things like ‘thingy’ and ‘couple of links’ you come in with the technical term like ‘Linked Selection’.

    Good show.

    Jeremy,
I am so A.R. when it comes to FCP terms as I have taught FCP since ’00, wrote a book on FCP and worked on the manuals for FCS 1 at 1 Infinite Loop. They are burned into my brain cells like being fluent in a foreign tongue. If only my Japanese, German and Spanish were as good as my “FCP-ese”. 😉
