June 2, 2008 at 10:14 pmUp to you. Which of those formats do you have the most of? Then choose that.
And find out what capture card you have.

June 2, 2008 at 10:22 pmIt’s a step in the right direction. Is it an HD capture card? SD? Decklink Extreme HD? Multibridge Pro? Eclipse?

June 2, 2008 at 10:49 pmWell, we’ll need more detail about the formats you shot. 720p DVCPRO HD or 1080i or 1080p DVCPRO HD? HDV 1080i I assume? Or 720p? DV…29.97 or 24p or 24pA?
That capture card can upcovert DV to HD, but only to 1080i, not 720p. And how much footage of each?

June 2, 2008 at 11:32 pmThis is difficult…because I would like to say to capture everything as DVCPRO HD 720p, but you can’t. The Decklink upconverts Sd to HD, but only as 1080i, not 720p. And the Decklink cannot cross convert 1080i to 720p…only the Kona 3 does both of those things. Which is why I went Kona instead of decklink…because I primarily work with Varicam footage.
Not sure what to do here. When faced with a similar dilemma I just said “I’m gonna get THIS capture card and that will settle that.”

June 3, 2008 at 5:04 amIf the DVCPRO HD footage is tape based (not P2) you should be able to cross convert the 720p footage to 1080i in the deck . Then capture everything else as 1080i as well. Do the entire edit in 1080i.
