what is best capture preset for different codecs
what is the best capture preset in fcp 6.0.2 for capturing hdv, dv, and dvcprohd footage in same project/sequence. i know it sounds stupid but client didn’t have budget for cameras so we shot on a sony mini dv, a canon hdv20 (1080i60), and an hvx200p (720p24pn). also how can i upgrade to fcp 6.0.3? thank you

Run software update on the computer.

That all depends on what your final output will be, and whether or not you have a capture card like a Kona.
It also depends on how much video of each video format you have, if the bulk of the footage is DV then I say stay in an SD format. If the bulk of your footage is HD then you may be able to get a way with up-converting some SD footage to HD.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

and how do i upconvert sd to hd? is that just putting it in an hd timeline?

I would capture or convert things as SD. And because I don’t like the compression of DV I would sagest 8bit uncompressed.

I suggest DVCPRO HD 720p…but this will be difficult to mix the 23.98 frame rate with 1080i60 footage and DV footage, both running at 29.97. With the Kona capture card you could capture all the footage as DVCPRO HD 720p, but no capture card changes the frame rate.
But you said you had little money…so Zane’s suggestion of Compressor might be the best way to go. But to get interlaced footage to look good in a progressive timeline…takes time.
This is all stuff you have to consider before you shoot. Post should be top most on your mind. Mixing all three formats and getting good results is a difficult thing.

how do i capture everything as sd and keep a 16X9 a/r? and you’re saying to export through compressor after everything is edited? btw, thank you to all for helping

ProRes HQ. Capture everything in it’s native resolution and framerate, but use the ProRes codec. That’s what I would do.
