  compression question

  I understand compression some what having used it a lot. It seems as you compress you get more noise is their any tricks to reduce the noise?
  What is the best compression settings for a 2 hour movie for a dvd? Is there anything better then compressor? Also what is the best compression for anything under 15 to 20 minutes. I use M peg 2 a lot.

  Yes, use Compressor.

  For anything under an hour, use a video CBR of 7.1 and AC3 audio.

  For 2 hours, use a ‘best’ quality 2-pass VBR and start with an average of 5.0 and a max of 7.0. (And AC3 audio.) That’s just a guess, it probably won’t be quite right. But try it, see what file size you get (for audio and video together) and then re-adjust the average number either up or down to get as close to 4 GB as you can.

  For a video that long honestly I would say use a dual layer DVD, that will give you much more room to play with then a signal layer DVD

  It really depends on the subject matter.

  A multi-camera sporting event? Yeah, your compression will suffer at 2 hours on a single layer disk.

  But a tripod shoot of a long church service? You’ll do just fine, quality-wise, even up to 2 hours.

  You’ll just have to try it out and test a disk on a TV to really know how it’s going to come out.
