  • How to record Live Speaker from Multiple Cams

Need to record speaker with four cams. Need to the ability to record live the four SDI feeds into Mac Pro with FCP Studio 2. The boss would like the ability to do live editing/post and when the speaker finishes to render a master DVD within 15 to 30 mins. Then have the DVD copied using the replicator DVD system.

Is any of this possible? If so, what type of Mac Pro would I need to buy and which capture card(s)?

    Current Equipment:
    Cam 1: JVC HD250
    Cam 2: Mobile unit – JVC HD250
    Cam 3: Sony 3CCD BRC-300
    Cam 4: Sony 3CCD BRC-300
Panasonic switcher: AV-HS300 with SDI inputs
HP 8400 with XP Pro, 4GB, 2X500GB, Nvidia FX1500 and Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro

Not possible with one computer. You either need to capture to four computers, or look into PICTURE READY…which also requires not only more than one computer, but large capacity shared storage.

  • This is simply called “live TV production.”

    It doesn’t require a computer.

Connect the 4 cameras to a video switcher, direct and switch the show live to a DVD burner and, afterward, dupe the DVD.

Any gear that you don’t have can be rented.

    “Live TV Production” ? What’s that! 😉

Seriously, cutting live is probably the way to go in that time frame, but if you’re not experienced in such, you’d better dern well practice before hand because it’s a skill/art unto it’s own.

If you do go that route, you really need some sort of headset-intercom system in order to direct the camera crew or you could find yourself at the board with nothing to cut to.

    I didn’t go into that because…

Since this is already a 4-cam shoot that was needing to go to DVD dupe within minutes of the conclusion of the show, what kind of coordination would the cameras have OTHERWISE?

You said you have a Panasonic switcher w/SDI,

why not just take the SDI out and feed that into a capture card, like a kona 3, or decklink HD and do a capture now as non-controllable device.
