logging P2 clips offline with log and transfer window?
I have a long running project with different formats (mostly DVCPro50 and DVCPro HD on P2.
I want to have a colleague log all the media we’ve shot at a separate location while I’m starting to edit the latest stuff here.
I was thinking I could create offline files and input the log info, but I can’t figure out how to create offline files with P2 footage.
Also, A: does FCP have a clever way of exporting a printed log and
B: is there a way to search through logging info from previous shoots without importing all the video into my current edit project?
C: is there a magic pill that I can take that will make me instantly organized ?

P2 doesn’t import at low res. Full res only. You can use the media manager to transcode to low res afterwards…but full res import only.

Hi Shane ! I will look over your blog and DVD. When I said I wanted to create offline files, I was actually referring to logging without actually importing any video, as I understand is possible with the log&capture window… I don’t desire lores files – only to have someone else remotely log comments and info for each P2 item that I could access and search later.
I’ll check out P2CMS as well.

P2 does not allow log without capture. Sorry.

Or log it, capture it, then make it offline. But thats hardly a workaround. Thats pretty unacceptable that you can’t log P2 and not import it. Wow. I’m extremely unimpressed. What an oversight.
