Timecode from digi
Hi there
I’m a noob and this is a very noobie question, so i thank you in advance for being patient with my query.
Basically, I’m capturing digibeta for the first time and I don’t know how to capture it with timecode. When i add the ‘timecode reader’ filter to captured footage it shows the timecode to have started at 00:00:00:00, when the timecode on the tape is the time the footage was shot, ie 17:45:33:15
I’m sure you need me to provide you with lots of information about what kit i’m using, so please let me know what i’ve left out.
I’m running FCP 6.0.2 on a Mac Pro
The deck is a Sony DVP-A500P and I’ve capturing via an AJA IoMy capture settings are AJA Io: SDI A-V 8-bit PAL 48khz
It might also be worth noting that I’m manually controlling the deck – there is no communication via the RS-422 cable at present.
I hope I’ve provided you with enough information. I’m quite embarrassed at how basic this query is, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your swift reply. I knew it would be as simple as that. You must be rolling your eyes in amazement at my ineptitude. I am however baffled as to why the computer is not seeing it. I have an RS-232 cable with gender converters at either end. Could that be the reason? One end of the cable is connected to the AJA Io and the other is connected to the ‘REMOTE IN (9p)’ at the back of the deck. In my capture settings i have the Device Control set to AJA Io RS-422 PAL but there is no communication. Any ideas why that is?

Does the cable you are using have the correct pin configurations to work as an RS-422 cable? Just because it is a 9-pin cable does not necessarily mean that the pins are in the correct positions. Try to find a proper 9-pin RS-422 cable and give that a try. The Io works very well with a Digibeta deck. I use the same configuration every day without any problems. Also make sure that you have not accidentally changed the AJA configuration in your settings. Also make sure that yoour AJA drivers are up to date and installed correctly. Also make sure that the settings in the Digibeta deck are correct. I believe that it is possible to change the serial control settings in the menu. Be sure that the deck is set up correctly as well.It’s usually a pretty bullet-proof combination and just works.

Thank you for your reply. I went through all your suggestions and it turns out that the cable i was using didn’t have the correct pin configuration. I have since found the correct cable and eveything is working as it should. Thank you very much for the thoroughness of your post, and your patience in answering what turned out to be a really straightforward and easy problem to fix. I feel stupid, but i guess we all have to learn somewhere.
