  • Problems with Overlays and Freeze Frames

Posted by James Dow on May 5, 2008 at 1:29 pm

When I try to create a freeze frame, or put a lower third Motion file on another track to key, the image turns red. I just switched to a dual Quad Core, and I’m using an AJA I/O box. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

You mean the clip itself turns red or you get a red render bar in the timeline?

Turns RED or displays an error message over a red screen?
You mean the whole image is replaced by a red screen or the image has a red overlay? Or you’re having trouble with the overlay displays, too?

You’re probably seeing the alpha. Look in the manual for how to turn it off in the Viewer and Canvas displays.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

The clip itself, no render bar.

Turns red, but no render bar.

[James Dow] “The clip itself, no render bar.”

Then change your canvas from alpha to RGB

The settings are not showing the alpha, although it looks like it is. I drag a motion clip onto the timeline, over another video track and the problem occurs. I dragged a text clip from FCP over the same section of the video track and it looks good…until I add a drop shadow to the text, then I get the same problem.

Any chance you can post a screen shot?

I have heard of drop shadows giving people fits.

You have gone up to the canvas and under the third pill looking button you have changed the drop down menu setting from Alpha to RGB?

The drop down setting is RGB. I think I just discovered what the problem is. I’m using an AJA iO, digitizing component out of a DVC Pro deck. The capture preset got changed, so when I started looking at different presets the problem went away.

[James Dow] “The capture preset got changed, so when I started looking at different presets the problem went away. “

    That’ll do it.
