We received a SD 720×480 Apple ProRess file, which needed to go out to Digibeta tape. Nothing too out of the ordinary except an unusual black checkered pattern on Line 21 coming out of the KONA3 card. I defaulted with FCP color bars and the artifact was still visible. When I switched Uncompress 10bit in my Easy Setup, the problem was gone.

I’ve contacted AJA support, whom where very helpful. Unfortunately, it appeared to be more of an FCP/QT issue instead. We down graded my driver to version 4.0 because of the particular version of QT we were using. We still had the same problem.

I then decided to upgrade my QT to 7.4.5 and FCP 6.0.3. Again, the problem is still there.

Currently we are rendering the file as Uncompress 10bit to resolve this artifact.

My question to the forum “gods” are:
    1) Has any one encountered this before?
    2) If so, what was your solution?
    3) If you haven’t come across this issue, then could you perform a test and post your findings on the forum.

I hope this is just an isolated issue and not a bigger problem.

    Thank you for your time

    Marcus

I think your ProRes file should be 720×486, not 480.

Line 21 is a common place for closed captioning.

    Hey Jeremy

That was it!!! 720×480 is not supported for Apple ProRes.
    Thanks for your help.
