it was fine yesterday, and today FCP is taking forever to open…like 10 minutes even for a brand new empty (no video clips) project. i’ve trashed prefs, trashed the render, waveform and thumbnail folders. restarted. no change. also ran Tech Tool first two suites and no problems showed up.

once FCP and my projects do open, everything runs fine. any ideas.

by the way, i read a recent exchange this morning, and want to say that i fully appreciate all the help and ideas i get here…and i always feel a little guilty that i only come on here to get my problems solved and rarely do i offer any help to anyone else, usually because i don’t feel qualified to do so, and also because the smarter guys here have usually already offered some great ideas. anyway, thank for the this forum and the people who spend so much time answering (often the same!) questions all day.

    thanks again!

you didnt install msn last night did you?

anyways my fcp was taking forever to open as well, then it crashed completely, try repairing disk permissions in disk utility on your hard drive, see if that helps.

nope, no msn. but after restarting it one more time, it as back to normal. i didn’t do anything different in between. after that, i also did the repair permissions like you had suggested. i had never done that before. is there a recommendation as to how often that should be done, or what it does when you do that? anyway, thanks for the input.

    thanks again!

do it when your system acts up,
its not just good for final cut it can fix all sorts of mac issues,

since it is still doing this (loading terribly slowly), i wonder if i should just reinstall FCP? i would hate to have to spend the time doing that…

    thanks again!
