  • Field Order for Avid Meridien files

And speaking of Avid field order (see below) yesterday I exported a number of clips from a project in FCP for use on one of our Meridien-based Avid systems. The clips were DV50 in FCP, exported as Meridien Compressed files and imported into the Avid. When played on the Avid, the field order is reversed. I simply exported using Quicktime Conversion using the newest Avid codecs. When using QT conversion, there doesn’t seem to be any options for field order reversal. The DV50 files are lower field first, of course, but I’m not sure whether the Avid files are the same. Are Meridien compressed files upper field first? I thought they were also lower field first but I may be wrong. The Avid editor attempted to flip the field order when importing the files but I didn’t seem to make any difference.
Any advice from the herd? It’s an older Symphony system running V3.5 software.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
In general the field order is not much important. The matter is that the application that read the file knows the real order.
You can export a DV file as Upper first. Off course FC will set Lower first because supposedly . all the DV is Lower. Is to you to make FC (AVID) to know the real field order. The file will play OK.
