Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I understand this isn’t exactly a Final Cut question but you guys are clever and I respect any input you might have.

I am getting frustrated, I am trying to create some sort of a workflow when compressing for our Flash 9 player to go to our web department (I am in post production). I have CS3 that comes with a Flash Video Encoder.

The content that goes to the web department is either a compressed file created from uncompressed 720×480 or 720×486 sources. I generally half the aspect ratio to 360×243 or 360×240 and give them the files for upload.

Does this workflow sound proper? Also, why are there so many different player sizes on the web. I saw a player with an aspect ratios of 387×286. Why is that, is there a secret I don’t know? Oh, I also read that Flash 9 support H.264, is this true?

I ask these questions in hopes that you have dealt with them after completing a project.

    Any help would be appreciated…

    Thank you,

    that sounds fine to me.

I’ve done a lot of flash 9 encoding and 320×240 12 or 15fps is the norm.

I have not seen any H.264 as of yet, but I heard its coming.

They better hurry up because microsoft silverlight is on its way.

    Thank you!

    I have one other question:

Am I on target or over the top if I have a 7 and a half min flash video that is 65.2 MB

They want high quality but is this too big?

Are these 720×480 files DV? It uses rectangular pixels. When going ot the web (square pixels) you should convert it to 640×480. That will look the same as 720×480 does on a TV.

In other words, 640×480 is full size. Thus, some other good sizes to use are 320×240 or 480×360.

[Derek Natzke] “They want high quality but is this too big?”

That does seem a bit high.

I use the on2 codec that comes with the flix pro encoder.

The settings I use which produce perfectly sharp video and excellent sounding audio is:

    Video: 2-pass VBR, 300kbps

    Audio: 22,050 khz, 56k mp3
