I did color correction on two sequences setting the black levels to 7.5% on FCP’s waveform thinking it was IRE. I don’t have time to go back and change every clip individually. I only have a few instances of slug in each sequence (which are at 0%).

    My question:
What do you think about the following option? Raising the black level of the few instances of slug to 7.5% (to match my darkest black in any of the video), then exporting the whole sequence. Then I would bring it back in and do a global black and white level adjustment on that clip.

Would it be adding to much processing for the video to hold up and I have to live with my blacks being not very black? Everything is DV in an 8-bit uncompressed sequence, going out through a Decklink Extreme card to DigiBeta.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    That is IRE.

DV and DigiBeta both run Blacks at 0.

Digibeta should always be 0 IRE setup.

Digital black should always be 0 IRE. That includes all video inside of FCP. When outputting to an analog format that needs 7.5 setup, like beta SP, your Decklink card should be able to add it for you. I use AJA products, myself, so I don’t know where to change that setting for the Decklink, but I’m sure the manual for it will tell you.
