I copied a bunch of clips onto a external drive for an edit on my laptop. when trying to re open the sequence and reconnect the media in the original suite the source clips names had disappeared and the source location of all the clips change to the external drive. The only way to reconnect the media was to manually find the location of each individual clip and reconnect it, there’s has to be another way!

there should be a box you can check that says “Reconnect all media in this directory”, and that should do it, provided FCP thinks its offline.

It’s not working because the source clips don’t appear to have a name. when i try to reconnect it come’s up with the external hard drive as the source clip location, no names. but, the clip in the sequence appears with the naming convention, really strange.

Did you rename your clips in FCP after you captured? Up until FCP 6, when you renamed your clip in FCP, the name of the original source did not change. Now, there’s an option to rename the original source when you change the name in FCP.

No, the clip names weren’t renamed just moved to a different location i.e external hard drive.
Then i reopened the sequence on another computer where the original media was stored and now the clips have no source location.

Have you had any luck reconnecting the media at all? Even though I know where the source material is, I am not able to reconnect it at all because the clips all seem to have had their source names deleted some how.
