Capturing DVC-Pro HD help please
I’m capturing DVC Pro HD footage from DVC Pro HD Deck. I’ve heard two schools. Need Kona type capture card or Just firewire deck into G5 (Quad right before Intel).
Do I need to upgrade to FCP 6.0?
Do I need the capture card or will firewire work straight?
Capture easy settings DVC-Pro HD 720 30 (rate recorded) or
Capture Apple Pro Rez?
Going for best quality but space efficient.Thanks for provided help.

Either would work if you capture as native DVCProHD. To convert to ProRes you need to come in SDI (although I think some people have gotten conversion to work through FW, I have not tried). But non Intel Mac Pros have trouble converting on the fly to ProRes with a card, the AJA Io would give you for sure results since it does the conversion before it gets to the computer. Also ProRes is FCP 6 only were as DVCProHD will work under FCP5
ProRes will hold up a bit better with graphics and CC if you use 10 bit but DVCProHD is a great compromise between quality and disc space. About 1/2 the size of PR (HQ) in 720P.

Does that mean I can go fw right into the G5 quad without having to upgrade to FCP 6.0?
I heard 6.0 is a little more stable when capturing.
Also, the DVC Pro HD Deck is Firewire 400. Is that good for just capturing the video?TR

yeap, fw 400 is all that is needed. No need to update to FCP6 if you still with DVCProHD FCP 5.1.2 and up did fine with it. I think the .4 really got things solid.
FCP6 has some great features as well as the other programs that comes with it and is worth it in my opinion but it is not a must have to do my job deal.

Captured tape 1 – There is a couple of frames audio slippage. Any way to fix that in the capture rather than in the timeline?
