So I’ve got a vector logo I’m animating and ran into an issue that I didn’t think was one. I’m masking for a stroke effect on various elements and that works great, until I started playing with a camera (and made the layer 3D obviously). I’ve done it before, I just can’t remember what exactly is needed.

Each way I’ve tried this now, I’ve run into one or more hurdles. Standard masks refuse to track, including matching the movement via a null, write on just goes nuts (seemingly at random) and vector paint will neither track nor scale (whether trying to scale normally, or via track or precomp, or via null).

How does one accomplish this? I’ve considered scaling the vector before hand, precomping that as a huge comp just to gain some more resolution before I do the move on it…perhaps that’s what needs done?

    Using AE7 Pro on Windows.

    Cheers,

[suprdrk] “Standard masks refuse to track”

Is there a reason you’re tracking something? Are you creating all of the motion in AE or is there video footage involved?

What ‘hurdles’ are you experiencing? Is it an issue with 3D layers? Are you getting error messages?

All the motion is in AE – it’s a broken down AI file layered in a comp and I’m looking to create a stroke effect along the particular lines and such as I animate various elements in. Standard shape masks work but will take a great deal of work. If I have to, thats how I’ll do it. But using something like vector paint or write on would save me a ton of time. Thing is, as soon as the layer it’s on goes 3D it breaks terribly (in the case of write on…and the same thing happens if i try doing the mask in 3D to start with). And in the case of vector paint, the mask simply will not scale, move, etc. with the layer in 3D once I enable cont. rasterize.

And on errors, just a bit of trouble, thanks.
