April 8, 2008 at 11:58 pmFor what drives? I use CalDigit drives and they come with a controller. But Sonnet makes one too, as does MacGurus and a few others.

April 9, 2008 at 2:25 amWe use the caldigit Fasta-E and the support is great! The after sale (support) is the biggest difference in most of these ESATA cards. You can contact Ron at Maxx Digital for this card.

April 9, 2008 at 2:42 amSorry for the lack of specifics. My son had given me maxtor 300G sata 2 drive and since my mac only has 2 drive bays I thought heck…why don’t I get an enclosure, slap in a sata card and voila instant external sata. Then after I regained my sanity, gtech, g-sata 1TB comes with the card…what was I thinking. It was a surprise that there wasn’t another slot to pop the drive in the mac. Iquess the powermacs only have 3 drive bays. 1 for system, 1 for the optical and 1 for a media drive. Thanks for the reply. Ralph

April 9, 2008 at 1:19 pmFirmTek also makes a two channel eSATA card that will work in a MacPro as well as a newer G5 with PCI express slots. I just added one to my Mac Pro to control a 2 drive enclosure with striped drives. Just got it up and running on Monday night and it seems to be working well.
