Before I buy my Matrox MXO card….
I have just finished reading a bunch of posts here on this forum…
I am looking for the best way to color correct and monitor my footage without spending $5,000 on a professional HD monitor. I know that’s the best option, but I don’t have the cash.
I have a 42″ Plasma, a G5 Tower and a 23″ Cinema Display.
Having read the posts here, I gather my best option is to go buy a Matrox MXO card…. and hook it up to my G5 and use my Cinema Display as a HD Monitor.
I also saw a Black Magic Intensity Pro Card for $349 on their website… would that work?
Sorry… first time into the world of HD monitoring.

It will give you HDMI out to a consumer display, but it won’t connect to your Apple display.
I think the MXO will give you better options down the road if you choose to upgrade your monitor in the future.
And I’d probably trust the newer Dell monitors with color accuracy than the Apple displays. Personally, I wouldn’t trust either, but if it’s all you can get, you do the best with that.

The MXO is compatible with color, and if you connect it to the Apple display, you will get broadcast quality color accuracy. The HD TV will not, but you can get close with the ability to calibrate to bars. If you aren’t delivering for broadcast, then that would be a decent choice. Not the best, but decent.
You can use the MXO with the Apple display for better accuracy, but then you lose your computer monitor, unless you use the HD TV in that capacity.
Not sure if the Intensity is compatible with COLOR? Is it?
