At work I use an ACD 30″ so I was considering that route on my home edit station, which currently utilizes a 4 year old ACD 22″. I want to switch to a (2) monitor set-up at home so of course I searched the Cow and read the various suggestions and opinions. After deciding on the popular DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24, I find they are no longer available (except e-bay), so I’m looking for other possibilities, maybe the DELL UltraSharp 2408WFP. I’m an Apple guy, but I don’t want to spend the cash for 2 ACD 23″. Any ideas? Thanks.

[John Weppler] “maybe the DELL UltraSharp 2408WFP.”

If this is what replaced the 2407WFP, then that would be my choice.

I ordered a DELL UltraSharp 2408WFP last week. Its taking Dell about a week or more to ship them for some reason.

I just cannot imagine that Apple’s $899 monitor really delivers 33% more of anything than Dell’s newer and more modern $599 monitor, except perhaps a 33% higher bill of course.

I’ve ordered one and I should get it on Tuesday. It looks very promising. Especially the 110% color gamut of NTSC. Plus it has a lot of different inputs that can be used.

Apple’s monitors are cool looking, but they are out of date and over priced.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I’ll give the 2408 a shot.

I have the HC version of the 2408 and I can tell you that gradients are definitely smoother but the color accuracy at least for VGA is a little bit off on some colors.

The dark blue/purple of NTSC color bars (right next to the super white block on the lower left) looks much more purple than blue compared to a calibrated pro crt.

In fact the bars look much more accurate on my other LCDs (some not even dell)

Have you played around with color profiles? Calibrated it? used the right one for the monitor?

FCP automatically adjusts the gamma realtime, assuming you’re in 1.8, so if you’re in 2.2, it will “double crush”

Obviously, you’re seeing major hue issues, and that sounds like a wrong display profile.. Maybe there’s an updated one? Or you could do a manual calibration w/in OS x…

(I’m on a pair of benq 241ws, and I think they do a really good job of color reproduction when calibrated…)
