  • Need advice. Final Cut Pro BetaSP Deck Control Black Magic Question.

Posted by Brent Goodale on April 3, 2008 at 8:01 pm

We are currently making the switch to hd and getting away from our old Avid system.

Our company has just bought a new Macpro and Final Cut Studio and i need to be able to layoff and capture from our beta sp decks to our new FCP system.
Our current deck is (UVW-1800 ) this is the deck that we want the ability to capture and layoff to.

We want the ability to capture and layoff to digibeta decks as well as beta sp decks.

We want to be prepared for future computer upgrades without buying a new I/O device.

    My questions are:

    1. What type of hardware do you recommend i get. internal or external?

(this is what i was thinking of getting)

    OR

    2. Are there cheaper alternatives? Such as an internal card?

    Thank you.

If you’re making the switch to HD and you are getting a new Mac computer, consider the AJA Kona series. The Kona LHe offers full Analog I/O along with full HD support for your move to HD.

If you are not purchasing a new Mac right away, you could consider the AJA Io LA which is an Analog Only, SD Only external firewire box that allows you to work in full Uncompressed SD.

Or if you want to be fully HD ready, you could purchase the AJA Io HD which gives you full Analog and Digital I/O in both SD and HD.

Since both the Io LA and Io HD work via Firewire, they can move to just about any machine.

We run two AJA Kona 3’s, one AJA Kona 2, one AJA Io LA and one AJA Io HD here in the shop and they’re the only company I recommend.

I am extremely happy with my Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme-card. It has all inputs and outputs in HD and SD and both picture and sound are brilliant. I haven´t had any issues with it. The price of it is also making me happy.
